Making Parkwood Vale · Part 1 of 13
Part 1
Install the software for the build: Dreamweaver, UwAmp and HeidiSQL, all run from a memory stick.
The start of the series. We install the 3 programs used to build Parkwood Vale and set them up to run from a memory stick, so the project can move between school and home and be zipped up and sent to the WJEC.

- In this series I'm going to be showing you how I made parkwoodvale.co.uk.
- I'm going to be using UwAmp and storing all of the information on a memory stick that
- could easily be transported from one location to another.
- I'm going to be using a Lenovo M75Q, a 4-core
- 4 GHz mini computer with 8 GB of RAM.
- These are available through the EdTech funding so should be available to all Welsh
- schools.
- into it.
- Okay, so now the computer is booted up, what I'm going to do is open up Adobe
- Creative Cloud. I'm going to start off by installing the biggest package, installing
- Dreamweaver. This is going to be used for the development of our website.
- As this is for the WJEC's GCE, I'm gonna stick with Adobe based products
- so I'm gonna click install
- While that's doing its thing in the background I'm gonna go and get two different
- programs that will be used within this development first one being you are We're
- going to need to host our website on a web server UwAmp allows us
- to create a virtual web server Directly on our memory stick that can be taken
- from school to home to continue our development
- wherever we are the brilliant thing with this is once we are finished with it we can
- zip up the UwAmp folder send it to the wjec in full confidence that it's gonna
- work the same way it did on our memory sticks because everything is packaged
- together so I'm gonna go to the download section and I'm just gonna go for the
- downloaded zip file and just click to download the latest version straight from you
- want themselves while that's downloading then what I'm gonna
- the third piece of software we're going to be using, which is an SQL database
- manager called HeidiSQL.
- What HeidiSQL is going to allow us to do is connect to our database, create tables,
- create relationships, add in data types in a much nicer and friendlier way than the
- phpMyAdmin web page does. So again, I'm going to stick with a portable version.
- I'm going to go for the 64-bit version.
- I'm running from a memory stick apart from our Adobe package now I've got a
- web an ad blocker in place it was telling me that I can't access this page because
- of my ad blocker but it says if I right click and go to copy link and
- then just paste that copy link at the top here it should
- in theory copy paste there it is download directly for me
- it's asking me am I sure I want to
- to keep it, show more and keep anyway.
- Just Windows trying to protect me because it doesn't know the author of this
- package. Now I use these packages on a regular basis, on a daily basis, so there is
- no need to be concerned about them.
- But if you are concerned, have your IT technicians run through, check them over,
- virus scan them, they will come back clean.
- Now in here, Dreamweaver has been installed successfully.
- So I can click on open Dreamweaver and that should launch that package for me and
- we're going to go through the setup the configuration of Dreamweaver in the next
- session I just want to say yes no I'm new to this I'm going to stick on a standard
- workspace and I'm going to go for a darkish sort of theme so let's go for this one
- here and just click
- get started the simple file so this is our interface for Dreamweaver and like I said
- I'm going to go through this in a lot more detail in the next session it's just a
- case of making sure
- Now you may get some security pop-ups, some security alerts asking to go through
- firewall. You can just click cancel on these.
- I'm going to log out of my office PC just to make sure that I don't overuse my Adobe
- licensing.
- And then I'm just going to say to download sync.
- There we go. That's all in place.
- Adobe is licensed. Adobe is running.
- I'm just going to close that for now.
- The next thing I'm going to tackle is going into those downloads.
- You can see that I have already downloaded these packages to check they work.
- I have already extracted them.
- So right-click, zip, extract all, and put them onto my USB stick.
- Here they both are.
- Let's start with UwAmp. UwAmp then allows me to create that virtual web server on
- localhost. If I go to localhost at the moment, you'll see that there is nothing
- there. The page won't load. It'll tell me it can't reach this page.
- If I go back in and I launch UwAmp and start my
- server. Again, you can see now that the Apache server is stopped.
- I don't want that. I want it to start my Apache server, so start Apache.
- Running. Both of them are up and running.
- And now, if I was to refresh this, I get my web page.
- From within UwAmp, I can choose the version of PHP I want to use.
- Always good for a latest version.
- And it will reset itself very quickly.
- and I can also choose what version of MySQL I want to use.
- We have controls here to go directly to this local host web page for browse www.
- I can go to folder www to bring up the folder structure within it.
- So there it is. There's my index page.
- That is this page here that has loaded.
- If I go browse, it brings up this page.
- Now, aside from that, we have some other information we can use, like phpMyAdmin.
- earlier, if I click onto phpMyAdmin, it will bring up my admin page.
- Password is going to be root, root, and that should allow me to log in and I have
- access to the database backend.
- As I did say, I'm not going to be using this when it comes to running my database.
- I'm going to be using HeidiSQL.
- So back into my memory stick, into my HeidiSQL, and let's open that package up.
- it starts off and it looks like this it's got a connection manager which i'm going
- to go for a new connection in there the location is just going to be
- 127.0.0.1 which is my local host i could change that to say local host
- and it would do exactly the same thing username is root password is root and if i
- click on open it says uh do i want to save my settings so yes and there
- is my
- You can see that this mirrors this element here.
- Anything I've got on this side here, I can do exactly the same process here, except
- for this will allow me to have a few better controls over different elements.
- So that's it. That's the basic setup in place.
- I have my database manager. I have my WAMP server, which is up and running from my
- memory stick, and I have Dreamweaver ready to start running with things.
- Like I said earlier, if I was done with this at the end of the lesson, I can stop my
- service. So I can go into the stop setting here and I could close down.
- So it says stop here, even though I had that error.
- Close down UwAmp, unplug my memory stick and off we go.
- Take this memory stick, go to a different computer, plug it back in,
- give it a couple of seconds to be configured picked up there it is open up you want
- straight away i can go back in launch my UwAmp server and
- browse ww to get back to my web page that i'm developing those three packages
- will be listed in the documentation you get alongside this video and the
- installation process shouldn't take you that long.
- Any questions, reach out, get in touch.
- Thank you for watching.
